Invest in Your Team: Methods for Staff Skillset Tracking and Development

Wed. September 19| 8:15 AM - 9:30 AM | 208

After this session you will be able to:
  1. Discuss innovative approaches analyzing perioperative nursing staff’s competency levels and the impact on productivity.
  2. Identify strategies to engage key stakeholders to support the education and training needs of perioperative staff.
  3. Describe how to use the experience of Stanford to support staffing for improved surgical outcomes.
Why is this important:

With the projected shortage of OR nurses, along with the steep cost and time necessary for training, what can you do to prepare and educate your current staff? Take a page out of Stanford Health Care’s book. Welde and Santos adopted an analytical engine offering automated skillset tracking and performance management of their staff. The skill level of the OR nurse can be a constraint to the performance of a surgical procedure. For the future of our facilities, we must invest in our nurses by identifying strategies for our team to learn new skills, and engage educators in helping staff maintain their current knowledge. You will leave this session with a plan for addressing the competency level of your staff and introducing cross-training opportunities within your OR.
