Don't Just Push the Piles, Make Sweeping Changes in Your Sterile Processing Department

Wed. September 19| 9:45 AM - 11:00 AM | 202

After this session you’ll be able to:
  1. Define core role responsibilities that contribute to successful Sterile Processing Department (SPD) operation.
  2. Identify strategic steps that afford the necessary vision and direction to secure resources to key stakeholders.
  3. Apply process improvement techniques to assess your SPD operations.

Why this is important:

Like most SPDs, the one at Massachusetts General Hospital has been challenged with high vacancy rates, limited staff training, increasing workloads, and significant frustrations among the team. By partnering with human resources to reevaluate historical roles, compensation levels, and staff competencies, Gray and Rosa developed a sustainable career ladder and several new positions. They reeingeered the organizational structure and operational workflow for better outcomes in their SPD. The speakers will expand upon potential variables and their own failure points to provide insight for conducting your own restructure, regardless of your organization’s size. This session will arm you with the tools to increase staff morale, production levels, and overall quality of care.
